We'll all remember 28 July 2024, that's for sure. A culmination of many years hard graft for Armagh GAA; clocking up the miles travelling the length & breadth of the country; disappointments from losing at the hands of a goalkeeper who guessed right.... This felt like a victory hard earned, imperfect but deserved.
Whilst many will remember the first All Ireland victory of '02, we've a generation of Club members who were merely twinkles in their parents' eyes then. This time around, the victory is all the sweeter. Shaking off the tag of the "nearly but not quite" team, surprising the pundits, proving their resilience amidst the nay-sayers.
Armagh - All Ireland Champions '24 has a great ring to it!
The joy & pride is palpable throughout the county, from all ages. The President's post-match speech resonated with every club member, regardless of their role. Without volunteers and community support, there would be no clubs. And without clubs, there would be no GAA. And if the GAA can galvanise communities to fill Croke Park with such colour and share in the euphoric homecomings we've seen, it sure is worth being a part of!
The players themselves acknowledge that each one of them has a story , a motivation which keeps them going , a hurt that drives them to lift others. That's what makes this victory seem so symbolic for each of us. Stick it out and you'll reap your rewards.
That is a priceless message for both young & old.
