Our U15 Girls took centre stage yesterday as they were crowned Div 5 Champions, defeating Sarsfields 4-12 to 2-10.  It was an exciting encounter in Forkhill, with the two teams leaving it all out on the pitch.  There were some cracking scores exchanged, and it was the home side who took an early lead in the first ten minutes of 1-2 to 0-1.  The O'Doirnin Blues never looked back and continued to build on their lead with some fantastic kicking.  Sarsfields were not to be written off though, and fought back to reduce the deficient at half time to a few points.

The visitors had the stronger start to the second half, and it really was game on with them scoring a penalty shortly after the restart.  It was reminiscent of the first match between the two, with the gap closing between the two sides to 2 points.  The O'Doirnin Blues settled once they got their second half scoring underway and after burying a penalty, they led 3-10 to 2-08.  They almost added a fourth goal soon after, but the ball hit the upright and over the bar.  At this stage, there were a few nervous parents and grandparents pacing the sideline, unable to watch!  It was a credit to Sarsfields that they kept battling, looking dangerous in attack each time they got the ball.  However, our girls' defence kept the pressure on and once they scored their fourth three-pointer, it was a surety that they'd bagged the victory they so deserved.  Sarsfields scored the last point of the game, and when the final whistle blew, the Michael O'Doirnins erupted with delight.  As one of our U8s commented at full-time, now that's what you call girl power!

Both teams were commended afterwards for being great ambassadors for ladies Gaelic football in the County, especially coming from smaller clubs.  Commiserations to Sarsfields who are a fantastic team and very sporting on the day.  Congratulations to the management team of Colm Cunningham, Shane McDonnell, Colm Rock and Pete Carragher for their work with this team all year.  It's very rewarding for the girls to have some silverware to their name after training and putting the hard work in to prepare for their matches.  We're very proud of you all!  Thank you to Forkhill GAC for arranging refreshments post-match for the teams, much appreciated.

Mother nature had other ideas for our younger teams last week, with the U6s & U8s being "hailed" off when the weather took a turn for the worse.  They were five minutes into their GoGames with Shane O'Neills but it had to be abandoned.  There were four seasons in the space of half an hour, with the U10s braving the elements too.  This week, the U6s & U8s will play Forkhill and hopefully, conditions will be more favourable for our Newtown Emmetts crew.

The U16s had a comprehensive victory over Shane O'Neills in their Championship Shield Quarter-final.  It was a great team effort, with our boys advancing on a score line of 8-17 to 1-04.

Good luck to our teams this week in their respective matches.  Tonight, our minors are away to Madden in the Championship quarter final.  The U16s have their semi final this Thursday.  The Seniors are back in action on Saturday in the JFC quarter final having been drawn against An Port Mór. We encourage all of our supporters to come out and get behind the teams 🍀  🔵  ⚪️
