Our lads put in their strongest performance of the Championship thus far, with Aidan Davidson getting a couple of scores on the board within the first five minutes. Clady got off the mark with a point after 8 minutes, before Emmet O'Malley finished off a great run with a goal, seeing Newtown up 1-2 to 0-01. There were a couple of missed opportunities, but Aidan raised the orange flag followed by a further point and a Shea Davidson point. Sean McVerry made a massive impact, and his 2 pointer had the score line at 1-08 to 0-4. A couple of frees were converted by Aidan before the break, with Clady ruing a few wides. Half-time : Newtown 1-10 Clady 0-04.
The second half saw Clady get off to a better start, with 2 points scored within the first four minutes. However, a goal from Shane Harte changed momentum, followed by a point from Benny Davidson, who worked tirelessly around the pitch. Once Harte rattled the net for a second time, Newtown led 3-11 to 0-6 and never looked back. A point from Bonzo boosted the lead, before Clady hit a purple patch with possession. A few of those were converted, with Clady bringing the score line to 3-12 to 0-9. Another 2 pointer from Clady with 12 minutes to go brought the deficit to 11 points. Oisin Hollywood struck the net after some brilliant inter-play by the forwards, which put the lads' victory beyond doubt. Clady tagged on two 2-pointers, but it wasn't enough to change the outcome.
A well deserved win for the lads, and a spot booked in the JFC Quarter Finals. Their opponents will be the much fancied Clonmore, but the team will be pleased with their group effort this afternoon. They'll be hoping to go further than last year, and can take much 'Harte' from their display today!
Final Score : 4-13 to 0-15.
