It may have been Easter holidays for most last week, but there was plenty of League action to keep everyone busy across the age groups.

Seniors
The Seniors had home advantage for their first League fixture with Collegeland.  It was a game of two halves in more ways than one.  The visitors led 0.6 - 0.1 after 15 minutes, but it wasn't reflective of the boys' workrate.  Aodhan Casey's shot on goal just missed, and soon after, Collegeland rattled the net at the other end.  Newtown tagged on a free and a point from play from Emmett O'Malley, to see the half time score as 1.7 to 0.4.
After the break, the lads settled more into the game. Two converted penalties from O'Malley and points from Sean McVerry and Aidan Davidson secured the vital two points by the narrowest of margins.  Collegeland had a number of opportunities to draw level but couldn't convert them. Final score, 2.09 - 1.11.

U18 Boys
The Newtown Emmets O'Doirnins overcame Loughgilly Gaels tonight in their opener of Div.3, finishing 1.13 - 1.10.  Patsy Finnegan was on photo duty and will be posted soon. Brilliant stuff lads.

U16 Boys
The lads travelled to Granemore last week under the watchful guidance of coaches Gary Fay, Eoin Carragher and Darren Shields.  They started well in the first 10 minutes with a goal and a point from Cathal Davidson, but the hosts settled down and hit 5 points without reply.  A goal from Adam Carragher put NEO'Ds back in front.  There was an exchange of points, before Granemore put the pressure on and scored again. A fantastic point blank save just before half time from Senan McCooey kept us ahead at the break 2-2 to 0-7.
Our second half was much better, with the defence keeping Granemore to just 2 points. The boys moved the ball really well and worked some great scores. Two goals from Noah McArdle and one each from Leo O'Rourke and Callum Rodgers put us well in front at the end. Special mention for our goalkeeper, Senan McCooey, whose kickouts were inch perfect for the whole match.  F/T:  6.07 - 0.09

U14 Girls
The Michael O'Doirnin Emmetts welcomed An Port Mór to Newtown for their League opener yesterday.  Despite being 6 points down at half time, the girls rallied together and ran out winners 7.05 - 5.06.  The sun was shining at full time for sure!

Not to be out done, our U12 Girls had a super run out in a blustery Forkhill against a strong Whitecross side.  The girls are working well as a team and learning lots from each challenge.
The U10 boys welcomed Oram to Newtown for a great evening of football, with the lads showing some super footwork and scoring abilities.

And that was only Week 1 of the season - 2026 is looking sharp!

Ádh mór ort, a Lochlainn Murray, who will be lining out with his St. Patrick's High School, Keady teammates this week in the Treanor Cup final!  A great experience that he can take back with him to Dundalk Street 💪
